Liz Munch : Applied Topology: Basic Ideas and a Mess of Applications
This talk will discuss some of the basic ideas pervasive in computational topology, especially persistent homology. Then, we will look at some currently active areas of application for these ideas, including large data sets, sensor networks, protein docking, plant root systems, and natural images. I assume no topology background, so this talk will be a good introduction to anyone interested in seeing what is going on in the field.
