Dennis Frank-Ito : The Future of Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling in Assessing Upper Airway Respiratory Physiology (Nov 21, 2014 11:55 AM)
The complexity of the human airway coupled with advances in computational technology have led to the growing interest in the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques to simulate airway physiology in order to collect objective data due to inter-individual anatomy and pre- & post-surgical changes. Outcomes from airway surgery are sometimes difficult to predict a priori, and it is not known whether topical medications are reaching target sites within the human air passage. This talk will give an overview of how CFD is used to explore these issues, as well as demonstrate the potential ability of this methodology in pre-surgical planning.
